Quick Tips To Stop a Barking Dog

If your dog is barking at inappropriate times, here are some tips to help you make him stop.

Use verbal commands like "No Barking", and "Stop".  This is something that takes time as you are conditioning the dog to understand you and your wishes.

You could use a squirt bottle in much the same way to get the attention of the dog if they will not stop barking.

If basic training fails, you may opt to use a citronella mister that goes off when the dog barks.  Dogs don't like the smell and eventually associate it with the barking

Some people opt for an electronic “bark collar” as a shortcut to training the dog themselves.  The collar contains an electronic device which is activated by the action of the dog barking.  The device issues a small electric shock which pains and startles the dog.  Eventually the dog is able to associate the negative stimulus with the barking and stops doing it.

Remember to reward good behavior and offer praise to the dog when they behave up to par.  Consistency is also important and you should remember to be consistent in your criticism and praise.
